When creating a campaign, you can apply targeting or exclusions at an order-level and an individual advertisement-level. Below are more details on the types of targeting and exclusion available at each level. Please note that if you do select advertisement-level targeting, the targeting selected must adhere to the order-level targeting parameters.

Content Targeting/Exclusions: Target or exclude content at the podcast, episode, tag, or topics-level. You can select any number or combination of podcasts, episodes, and tags.

Topics (shown above), also known as contextual targeting/exclusions, will give publishers the ability to target content based on topics discussed within a podcast episode. Using Spotify’s first-party classification technology, Megaphone will automatically tag your episodes that cover topics that are included in our list of available options. You can then target or exclude those topics while creating/updating/editing orders.

Please note that topic targeting/exclusions (contextual targeting/exclusions) can only be applied for shows that have been opted into the Spotify Audience Network. This feature is also currently in open beta.

Geotargeting/Exclusions: Target or exclude listeners based on country, region, DMA, city, and zip code. You can search by any of those options.

Audience Targeting/Exclusions: Formerly known as “segment targeting”; Target or exclude based on Nielsen audience segments; you can also create segment groups or input segment codes. Please note that this feature must be enabled for you and is not included in the base Megaphone offering.

Device Targeting/Exclusions: Target/Exclude by iOS/Android/SmartSpeaker; if no choice is made all devices will be targeted
