Megaphone Broadcast to Podcast allows you to create live-stream recordings and automatically convert them into Podcast Episodes.

Note: Broadcast to Podcast is available to Megaphone Enterprise customers.

To create episodes for a podcast through live stream recordings, first navigate to the desired podcast. On the podcast's overview screen, click the "Settings" button located in the upper right corner of the screen.

Select the “Live stream settings” tab and click the “Create Live Stream” button at the top of the table.

Complete the “Live Stream Info” form and click “Save” in the top right corner to create a Live Stream. The following is an explanation of each of the fields.

In this section you will configure your live stream source.

Type

Choose your stream type from the supported formats: ICY/Icecast, HLS or RTMP.

Method

ICY/Icecast and RTMP support both Pull and Push streams methods. HLS supports Pull only.

Here is an explanation of each supported Type and Method combination:

ICY/Icecast Push

The Username and Password are provided by your streaming service and authorize Megaphone to access your feed.

The Stream URL and Private Stream Key are provided by Megaphone and should be added to your streaming service configuration.

ICY/Icecast Pull

The Stream URL is provided by your live stream service and should be publicly available. Megaphone will access this URL to record your stream.

HLS

The Stream URL is provided by your live stream service and should be publicly available. Megaphone will access this URL to record your stream.

RTMP Push

The Stream URL and Private Stream Key are provided by Megaphone and should be added to your streaming service configuration.

In this section you can configure a single recording or a repeating recording schedule.

Below is an example of a repeating schedule that records for 90 minutes at 6am US Eastern Time on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.

Feature rules can be configured to automatically identify music, tones, silence and metadata in your live stream and apply actions such as removing segments, replacing segments or inserting cuepoints.

Each recording will create an Episode in your selected Podcast.

Episode status

Choose whether the Episodes created should be in Draft status or Published immediately.

Episode title

Enter the title for each episode created by this recording. To dynamically add the date of the recording to the title, include the format_current_date helper with your desired date template in strftime format. Example: The Morning Show - {{format_current_date ‘%Y-%m-%d’}}.

Episode description

Enter the summary for each episode created by this recording.
